MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR COMMISSION MEETING

OF THE PORT OF HOODSPORT COMMISSION

January 15, 2013

Approval of Agenda:  Commissioner Petz made a motion to approve the 1-15-13 meeting agenda. Commissioner Brazil seconded, unanimously approved.

 

Minutes: Commissioner Brazil made a motion to approve the minutes of December 11, 2012. Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved.

 

Vouchers: Commissioner Petz made a motion to approve the Vouchers December (2of2) $270.00, Payroll/941 tax $1,455.43, January 2013 (1of1)$35,338.96, January (2of2) $3,957.76 Commissioner Brazil seconded, unanimously approved.

 

Public Communication: 

Ken Sides at Kimber will repair the damage to the dock that was found during the first dock repair due to the concrete boat damage that tweaked the structure and causes the continuation of it pulling itself apart.  Insurance will cover the costs.

Dave & Val Wagner with Hood Canal Adventures is looking to relocate to Hoodsport in hopes of creating an environment conducive to promoting tourism & economic development on the Hood Canal and the Gateway to the Olympics, providing family fun and adventure especially in the winter months when the local economy is in need.  They will be offering adventure packages which will include Geo Caching, kayaking & boating packages which will tie in local businesses.

 

 

 

Commissioner Reports:  

 

Commissioner Brazil met with Ian Morris – Graduate student of Architecture from the University of Wisconsin whose parents are the owners of the Hardware Store Distillery.  Ian is interested in doing his Master thesis on what the downtown Hoodsport area could look like by doing a study involving research, drawings, etc.  He wanted to donate his thesis ideas to the Port of Hoodsport in hopes the Port could include some of the information & ideas in a Master Plan development for the future.

 

Port Maintenance Reports:

Christmas tree lights & ornaments were removed from the tree at the Port’s Marina Park that was used for the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.  The temporary public restrooms will be restored to pre-rental condition, locked up & cordoned off ready for pick up on Friday January 25th.   Parking will be available for the EMT units, parking in front of West realty will be blocked off and the dock will be clean and ready for the Polar Bear Plunge on February 2nd.

 

Port Operations Manager Report:

Arrangements will be made to pump down the temporary restrooms holding tanks & have the tanks removed on January 24th , Two Port o Pots will be delivered to the South end of West Realty for the public’s use.  The electrician will disconnect power prior to removal of the restrooms.  Arrangements will be made for Commissioners to view the CXT Montrose restroom facility.

Commissioners voted to increase the amount in the contract for a larger septic capacity, two same size septic tanks will be installed for more capacity & storage time.  Commissioner Petz moved to authorize and increase the contract amount to $2,000.00 to purchase larger septic tanks.  Commissioner Brazil seconded, unanimously approved.  The Port is looking at Variable speed signs to slow down traffic in the downtown Hoodsport area, Crosswalk flags will be ordered and placed at crosswalk leading to Port dock as an experiment to find out if they are effective enough to place at other crosswalks in town.  Corrected election information, Commissioner Brazil’s 4   year term will expire in November 2013.  As per the Forester, Tree planting at the Hoodsport Trail Park will be delayed due to snow on the ground and frozen soil until spring.  An invoice was received from former Port Commissioner Patterson regarding un reimbursed costs for storage of equipment & materials when the dock was being built which will be accepted in lieu of payment for the Commissioners current bill.  The Port received their copy of The Ladies of Mason County (emergency services) calendar in which the Port of Hoodsport was a sponsor.  The WPPA Port directory information was submitted for 2013.

 

Budget:    Review of Expenditures/Revenue partial month ending December 2012

 

Old Business:

 

  1. Discussion/Direction Regarding the Septic Design, Temporary & Permanent Restroom Projects: 

Septic Design:  Commissioner Petz & the architect are moving forward as per requirements made at the pre conference meeting with Mason County.

Permanent Restrooms:  CXT Montrose has been ordered & will be complete 1.28.13.

Temporary Restrooms:  Removed and Port o pots temporarily installed

Commissioner Petz summarized the current tasks in the process of the Permanent Restrooms; the General contractor is overseeing the septic system, the landing for the permanent restrooms, hook ups, plumbing and electrical.

 

New Business:

Discussed what could be the next project for the Port and updating its Master Plan, this will be tabled for discussion at a later date.

 

Next Meetings:  Next meeting date is Tuesday February 12th at 9am.

 

Adjourn: Commissioner Brazil made a motion to adjourn the Regular Port meeting. Commissioner Petz seconded, unanimously approved, meeting adjourned at 11:25am

 

2013 Regular Port Commission Meetings are scheduled as follows:

Tuesdays:

February 12th @ 9 am, March 12th @ 9am, April 9th @ 9am, April 30th @ 9am.
