Public Communication:

Linda Woytowich presented the sign to be placed on the public restroom building crediting the Port of Hoodsport with providing the restrooms. The Port will affix a 24″ x 12″ sign in between the men’s and women’s restroom doors. Another rendition of the ‘way finder map’ to be erected next to the new Public Restrooms was presented and discussed. The Commission decided to wait to add Businesses, Organizations & websites until a Business owner and a public meeting can be held to find out what the community would like to see in a directory board. At this point the Commissioners would like to see the Port District and a magnified view of Hoodsport on the map. Until then, The Port will buy a laminated Olympic Peninsula map temporarily.

Commissioner Reports:

Commissioner O’Laughlin walked the trail park on both sides of the road and determined the Hoodsport Trail Park will need more signage directing hikers to different trails and also flora and fauna signage with points of interest. He also inspected the bridge abutment and was concerned about winter water pushing some of the logs with force possibly moving the bridge again. Commissioner O’Laughlin will take an Engineer to assess what may need to be done, if anything before winter. Due to wonderful weather weeds and black berries are starting to grow along and onto the trails and will need to be taken down. The 4H crew left piles of forest debris when blazing their trails which could be chipped and spread around for natural ground cover. An idea would be to hire Prisoners to work alongside the maintenance crew with Commercial chippers to dispose of the brush piles. Some of the new trees that were planted will need to be moved since they are growing too close to the new trails. Commissioner O’Laughlin spoke to some of the owners of property in between the Hoodsport Trail Park and the Foothills Park in an effort to get a feel from property owners about connecting the two parks with a hiking trail. Commisisoner Petz spoke to the Shoreline Management committee who will have a report out at the end of September for comment.

Port Maintenance Reports:

The maintenance crew removed an old and dangerous tree house on the golf course side of the Hoodsport Trail Park. Raccoons had been living in it and it was a hazard. Bruce has an idea for signage and possible parking on that side of the trail park; it will need to be explored with the WSDOT. A big boat tore off the 4 x 4 railing on the end of the dock which will need to be repaired. The public restroom doors magnetic locking system was ripped open after hours and will be repaired under warranty.

Port Operations Manager Report:

Lots of people are commenting on how beautiful the Port Marina park looks and the restrooms have been super accommodating to the public and masses of tourists and fishermen. The small ports seminar given by the Washington Public Ports Association does not yet have an itinerary or registration yet for the Commissioners who would like to attend. We are discussing a Community dinner with the public as well as a business owner meeting in the spring to discuss what the business owners and public would like to see as far as the Ports next projects and signage which will include businesses, organizations and useful website information. Discussion about RV’s and boats for sale which has been parked in the Port parking blocking the public restroom parking area and view on the Highway 101 corridor.
