Old Business
Urban Growth Plan
Don LeMaster reported that he got a copy of the original draft plan from Dennis Craig, and gave a copy to Mike Purvis. They feel that we should table the matter until further down the road with the wastewater project. That project, as well as the work we’re doing with Art Anderson Associates and the Port’s Comprehensive Plan, will be the drivers for the Urban Growth Plan. While we’re waiting, they will work on pulling together a committee.
Restrooms
Don LeMaster didn’t get hold of Dale yet to look at Mike Purvis’ property, but he will do so. Mike Pointed out that we’re not in a hurry to get it done.
Wastewater Management System
Don LeMaster reported that he attended the Wastewater Management meeting. He felt that it was well run and very informative. He believes that they’re focused on getting the project done. Commissioner Benavente also attended, and they agreed that the decision is already made to get it done, but that they don’t yet know how they’ll accomplish it. They still need funding, but feel that funds will be available once the feasibility study is presented in Olympia. They have some significant timelines and guidelines, and Don has a good feeling about it.
They’re looking at completing the Finch Creek area, the reservation and downtown Hoodsport. Hookups will be mandatory. The figure given for construction cost per hookup is at $28,000 per residence, before grant monies are deducted. Commercial rates would be at least 1½ times that rate. Commissioner Benavente thought that it might be worth contacting Allyn to find out if they believe that their sewer system helped to get their Urban Growth status, and if that has been worthwhile.
Hoodsport Vision
Mike Purvis asked what’s happening with the vision plan. Commissioner Young responded that the Port has contracted with Art Anderson Associates to put the vision plan together. The first meeting is scheduled for this Friday. They will let us know what can and cannot be done. There is a detailed scope of work, but it’s on an aggressive schedule. We expect to have the final product in 6 to 8 weeks. He reiterated that our plan will become the driver for the UGA.
George Fisher commented that the inclusion of a community center at Foothills Park in the Parks Department plan is a great accomplishment for the Port in forwarding the goals of the Comprehensive Plan.
Dennis Craig has resigned from the PDA and the Tall Ship Project due to health issues. The PDA sill be reorganizing and have scheduled a meeting for next Wednesday, February 21, at 7:30 a.m. at the Coffee Shop.
Having no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:02 a.m.
