EXECUTIVE ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
June 11, 2008

Approval of Minutes: Ed Binder made a motion to approve the minutes of May 14, 2008. Motion was 2nd by Janene Bandes. Passed unanimously.
Old Business: Barbara Levette presented the 3rd phase presentation/discussion regarding partnerships. The following was noted:
1. -Partnership with the County needs to be nourished and more attention is
needed from them.
-Tourism dollars-4th of July and representation on County website.
- Public entities/County/State/Feds/Regulatory Agencies.
2. Criteria used by the County to judge EAB with Port.
-Participation by EAB with Port - tax benefits to County, a voice,
exposure, influence, traffic, building permits/development permits,
activities, sewer, law enforcement issues, perception of representation.
3.-Complaints to Commission, includes what is not County mandate,
contributes to perception of Hoodsport.
-Cost of law enforcement, L-tax, disasters.
- increased tax base if Hoodsport Days promoted
- feedback from Environmental organizations
- permitting agencies/personnel and County Commissioners may have
their own agendas.
- on Planning Commission
- on County Boards
- Zoning
- Direct participation level/appear to speak
4. How are we doing?
- shot in the dark/no organization
- sporadic representation
- Port recognized recently
- Full of surprises/shops/activities
- Pump-out/new docks/recognize the energy in Hoodsport
- need to partner with neighboring communities/Casino
- County doesn’t see Hoodsport/Hood Canal associations
- Who do you talk to, to talk about Hoodsport?
- Opportunities for working with local communities
5. Skokomish - Criteria they use to judge Hoodsport
- area to shop, commercial fishing, alternative for fuel/groceries,
socialization, restaurants, entrance to Lake Cushman to reservation,
opportunities for cross merchandising, element base/proof of market,
beer, cigs, fish.
- tribal members in Lake Cushman, antagonism from our dock, County
wouldn’t provide law enforcement.
- history - older perception.
- Skokomish haven’t had resources to deal with and establish
relationships with the Port.
- Tribal members attend 4th of July activities in Hoodsport
6. How is the Port doing?
- A lot don’t know or care to know
- mutual marketing opportunities
- tribe is proponent of Hoodsport UGA
- Opportunities for partnership with mutual support.
- strong PDA
- Need to develop relationships before they are needed
** The next meeting will include more discussion regarding partnerships.
