Minutes for the Port of Hoodsport

Executive Advisory Board MEETING

august 8, 2007

Call to order:  8:05 a.m.                                                  Adjourned:  8:47 a.m.

Attendees:   Commissioner Frank Benavente

Commissioner Dick Patterson

Don LeMaster, EAB

Carol Ferguson, Administrative Assistant

Old Business

Pumpout

Commissioner Benavente reported that we have the final engineering report. We still have to get three bids each on plumbing, electrical and septic, and we’re waiting for the final permit. More information was requested and it was submitted last week. We have received the Fisheries and hydraulic permit approvals.

Hoodsport Master Plan

Don LeMaster expressed concern about the plan being published and asked how it happened. He thought that it might have an adverse effect on property acquisition. Commissioner Benavente responded that it is an approved plan and, therefore, it’s public information. A CD was given to Dona Martinsen when she attended a Port meeting. Don reported on a Lake Cushman blog that is putting out information on the plan, often incorrect. Commissioner Young will be speaking to the Lake Cushman Booster Club in October, and he’ll give them an update on the plan. Don will be speaking to the Lilliwaup Community Club and will make sure that the information he gives will be correct.

Restrooms

Commissioner Benavente reported that we didn’t get the grant for the restroom. The commissioners have had meetings with CTED and USDA regarding funding, and there are grants out there for planning, engineering and feasibility studies. Commissioner Benavente will be meeting with CTED again in a couple of weeks to put together a grant application that could include a feasibility study for the entire downtown plan.

Dock Repair

Commissioner Patterson reported that Hurlen put in 34 billets, but we don’t know what else was done. We’ve written a letter asking for an update on what was done and what is still to be done, but we haven’t received a response. Don LeMaster recommended that we write another letter saying that we have to move forward and that there is significant legal liability involved in safety issues and ADA requirements.

Commissioner Benavente said that he has looked at the broken corner and that it needs a new “L” bracket and bolts. Don suggested that we hire someone to do it. We have to order the parts once we check the original drawings and take the measurements. Don suggested that we go to Brothers Steel Fabrication in Brinnon.

Dennis Craig Memorial

We still haven’t received the letter from the Lilliwaup Community Club. Don will follow up with them when he speaks there this week.

Property Acquisition

Don LeMaster stated that he would like another Executive Session with the commissioners to get a clearer understanding of the direction he should be taking. He would also like to have letters of intent drafted for both parties. Commissioner Young is back in town and Carol will check with him on his availability for next week.

Tribal Representative

The Port Commissioners sent a letter to the Tribal Council, but we haven’t received a response.

New Business

Dog Potty

We ordered and received a dog waste station, but the sign that was to accompany it is missing. When that arrives, it will be installed at the dock/park.

Small Works Roster

Dennis Craig’s brother, Lawrence Craig, is an architect who has done marine work. He has submitted a small works roster application to the Port.

Seattle has a 178-foot tall ship that is losing its berth in three months. Commissioner Benavente provided the information to Chuck Engel.

Having no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:47 a.m.
